SQE1 GUIDE
SQE1 revision timetable
There is no single right way to revise for SQE1. Your timetable depends on how long you have, what you already know and what else is happening in your life. This guide shows one way to build a plan that covers every subject, builds in regular practice and leaves time to review before the exam.
Start from your dates
Write down your FLK1 and FLK2 dates and count back. For the January 2027 sitting, FLK1 runs from 11 to 15 January 2027 and FLK2 from 18 to 22 January 2027. Check SQE1 exam dates and the SRA’s own pages for your booking deadline. Then decide how many hours a week you can realistically give to revision.
List what you need to cover
Use the SRA's SQE1 assessment specification as your checklist. It sets out the subjects in each paper and what is assessed in each. Rate each area as strong, workable or weak. That rating, not the order of the specification, should decide where your time goes.
Plan in three phases
Learn: work through each subject, giving more time to your weaker areas. Practise: once you have covered a subject, answer questions on it regularly, and keep returning to earlier subjects so they stay fresh. Review: in the final weeks, stop adding new material and focus on mixed practice, timed sessions and the rules you keep getting wrong.
A sample 16-week outline
If you have about 16 weeks before FLK1, one approach is: weeks 1 to 6 on FLK1 subjects; weeks 7 to 12 on FLK2 subjects; weeks 13 to 15 on mixed practice and timed sessions across both papers; and week 16 for light review and rest. Because FLK2 comes a week after FLK1, keep some FLK2 practice going in the final weeks. Treat this as a starting point and adjust it to your weak areas and commitments.
Make practice a daily habit
Short, regular practice spreads your revision out and keeps earlier subjects in play. A daily question takes a few minutes. After you answer, read the explanation for every option and note the rule to remember. Our guide to answering single best answer questions sets out a method to rehearse each time.
Practise at exam length
From January 2027, each FLK assessment is sat in two sessions of 85 questions, each lasting 2 hours 33 minutes, and each session covers a set group of subjects. Before the exam, do some practice sessions of that length so the pace feels familiar.
Look after yourself
Build rest days into the plan and protect your sleep in the final week. A timetable you can keep is better than an ambitious one you abandon.
Keep practising
